Mr. Smith completed his degree at General Motors Institute in 1969. He started and managed two ventures, in the 1970′s, resulting from inventions and product developments with annual sales of $2 million. Directed development and awarded patent for process to produce metallic oxide powders, which could be used as ceramics or powder metals Directed development of process for manufacturing steel wire directly from ceramic powders with sales of $1 million three years after start-up. Directed development of process to manufacture steel wire segments directly from molten metal with sales of $ 1 million two years after start-up.
Mr. Smith worked as Technical Director/Manager for two magnet-manufacturing companies. At both companies, he was directly responsible for development of magnetic materials, ferrite materials at Flexmag Industries and rare earth materials at Crucible Magnetics. Suppliers at both companies manufacture powder materials using current, environmentally dirty, technology.
Mr. Smith has successfully completed three start-ups in his capacity as a consultant for Inland Steel, CCM Die Supply and Coastal Reconstruction. Mr. Smith recently completed a green field start-up with a Japanese PVC profile extrusion company and began work to secure funding for this project.
